In the tenth part of our Behind the Scenes series, in which we show you the most hidden corners of Baobab Suites as well as presenting some of the members of our fabulous team, we catch up with Ricardo Marchini, the man responsible for keeping Baobab Suites so white! Our charismatic Argentinean reveals what an average day in one of the hotel’s most challenging departments is really like as well as some of his life’s passions.

Name: RICARDO MARCHINI

Position: Technical Service

Nationality: Argentinean

A little bit about me:

I’m originally from Argentina (Mendoza) and have been living in Tenerife for 14 years. Before starting at Baobab Suites I worked in the paintwork maintenance department for the owner’s community at Tenerife Royal Gardens. I’ve been here at Baobab since November 2013.

My work days are:

Mostly spent moving forwards and backwards through the hotel’s many hallways, trying to keep the areas as white as possible. It requires a great deal of consistency to make sure that the communal areas around the hotel are in the best possible condition.

What I like most about my work is:

Seeing the hotel so very white, as it’s synonymous with a job well done. Keeping it in perfect condition is quite a challenge, especially when it comes to making sure the most frequently used areas stay as bright as the rest of the hotel.

My favourite place in the hotel is:

The terraces and around the main swimming pools, for their magnificent views.

When I’m not working you’ll find me:

Enjoying time with my partner and friends, talking as little as possible about my day to day life.

What I most miss about Argentina are:

My sons, Leandro and Nicolás, they’re my life. I hope to be able to see them again next year, they are truly exceptional young men. I’d also love to see some of my closest friends and family members who still live there, but apart from that there isn’t much that I miss about my country. Tenerife is my homeland now, a paradise to enjoy living in. I consider myself Argentinean by birth but Tinerfeño (a native of Tenerife) by adoption!

My colleagues are:

Excellent professionals but above all wonderful people – I consider them to be true friends of mine. The nicest thing is that we all help each other here, whether it’s a maintenance problem, fixing plasterboard, helping out with a plumbing issue, etc. It’s so much better working this way.

If I didn’t work in Technical Services department:

I think I’d like to work in reception – I love the idea of being in continuous contact with the guests, helping to make their stay with us perfect from the moment they arrive. I’m sure it would be challenging, but I’d get to meet people from different countries and cultures, something very enriching that helps you to grow on both a professional and personal level. For now I’ll continue with my white paint, content with knowing that our reception already has very good professionals!
