It’s that time of year again, when the whole of Tenerife takes to the streets in every type of fancy dress costume imaginable for the world-famous street carnivals. Held in various places around the island over the next few weeks, from Puerto de la Cruz to Los Cristianos, it’s the celebrations in Tenerife’s capital, Santa Cruz, that are widely considered to be the second best in the world after Rio de Janeiro.
If you’ve never experienced Carnaval in Tenerife, you really should – every man and his dog takes to the streets, dressed in a variety of weird, wonderful and often incredibly elaborate fancy dress costumes, to drink, dance and party. With celebrations happening both night and day – the day carnival (Carnaval de Día) is especially great for families – this is your chance to experience the crazy, fun side of Tenerife.
